The Ancient Yew
Tree
|
|
|
The yew
tree, believed to be up to 5,000 years old, will also feature in a documentary
being made by the BBC for the Open University. St Peter's Church itself, though
modernised in Edwardian times, still shows signs of its ancient origins in the
Saxon oak beams which support its bell tower. |

St. Peter's Church
|
|
|
St Peter's is the only worship centre in the Tandridge village
community. It was of some importance particularly in Anglo-Saxon times
in giving its name to one of the thirteen Hundred districts into which
Surrey was divided. It is popular with walkers who find it featured in
most walking guides to the area particularly as it has the second
largest Yew tree in UK. |

(formerly the North Tandridge Local History Centre) has carried out an
exciting project to digitise 1000 images drawn mainly from the
photograph collection at Caterham Valley Library, and use them to
produce electronic resources for educational purposes and to promote
local history.
